OverviewAs an Academic Counselor, you will play a crucial role in providing guidance and support to students, helping them navigate their academic journey and achieve success.

Your role is pivotal in addressing students academic and personal challenges, ultimately contributing to their overall growth and development.

Provide academic advising and counseling to students on course selection, degree requirements, and career pathways

Assist students in developing educational plans and setting academic goalsConduct one-on-one sessions to address students academic, personal, and career concerns

Facilitate workshops and seminars on study skills, time management, and academic success strategies

Collaborate with faculty and staff to monitor students progress and identify at-risk individuals

Assess students strengths, weaknesses, and interests to provide tailored academic guidance

Stay updated on university policies, procedures, and academic resources to accurately advise students

Support students in accessing academic support services and resources

Participate in orientation programs and academic events to engage and inform students

Document and maintain accurate records of counseling sessions and student interactions

Collaborate with career services to assist students in exploring internship and job opportunities

Contribute to the development and enhancement of academic counseling programs and materials

Respond to inquiries from prospective students and provide information on academic programs and admissions

Stay informed about current trends and issues in higher education and counseling

Adhere to ethical standards and confidentiality guidelines in all counseling interactions

Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Education, Psychology, or related field

Proven experience in academic advising, counseling, or student servicesStrong understanding of academic programs, degree requirements, and educational pathways

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to empathize, motivate, and inspire students towards academic success

Knowledge of counseling techniques, assessment tools, and student development theories

Familiarity with academic support resources, learning assistance programs, and student success initiatives

Ability to work collaboratively with diverse students, faculty, and staff

Strong organizational and time management abilities

Proficiency in relevant computer applications and student information systems

Commitment to upholding ethical standards and confidentiality in counseling

Understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education

Ability to adapt to change and thrive in a fast-paced academic environment

Certification or licensure in counseling or related field is a plus
